What’s in my cart?

Before we get to what followed me home from Costco this week, I want to give a few words of thanks for green open spaces.

I heard about a study this week that showed that even five minutes of physical activity in a green space boosts mental health. Well, shucks, I could have told them that! One reason we chose this neighborhood was its proximity to Lake Washington and lots of parks and green space. I take my daily walk to a big park then walk along the lakeshore. It’s especially exciting this time of year, when the sun is finally coming out, plants are bursting into bloom, and geese and ducks are getting ready for a new crop of fuzzlets. Just look at this lovely mossy rock (yes, some people stop to smell the roses, I stop to take pictures of moss).

So, here’s what was in my cart:

  • Lettuce, organic
  • Broccoli
  • Pea pods
  • Mini peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes
  • Celery
  • Onions
  • Avocados
  • Bananas
  • Pineapple (2)
  • Dried cherries
  • Walnuts
  • Cottage cheese, lowfat
  • Eggs, organic
  • Sprouted grain bread, 2-loaf pack
  • Blueberry juice

On a second stop, we bought:

  • Half gallon of organic whole milk, pasturized but nonhomogonized
  • 64-ounce tub of Nancy’s whole milk yogurt, organic
  • Single-serving vanilla greek yogurt (for a recipe)
Tomorrow: Where’s the beef? (Hint: It’s in my freezer, and there’s a LOT of it. Pork, too!)
