What’s in my cart?

Boy, was I glad I bought lettuce at the farmers market on Wednesday, because the mixed greens at Costco were disgusting. When the “use by” date is 10 days out and there are already black spots on some of the greens, there’s a problem. Are the pallets sitting in the sun on the loading dock, or what? Come on Costco, I love you, and this is SO beneath you!

Anyhoo, here’s what fell into my cart this week:

  • Organic baby spinach
  • Avocados
  • Bell peppers
  • Pink Lady apples
  • Bananas (2 bunches)
  • Strawberries
  • Pineapples (2)
  • Hummus single-serving packs*
  • Turkey breast*
  • Low-fat cottage cheese
  • Organic butter
  • Dubliner white cheddar cheese
  • Babybel cheese

* These are my two concessions to convenience food. I don’t feel particularly good (and in fact feel like a raging hypocrite) about buying a turkey breast that came from an industrially raised bird, and I could make my own hummus, but the single servings are so easy to pack around…and it helps with portion control.

Earlier in the day, I used a “$10 off a $30 purchase” coupon from Cost Plus World Market (love them!) to buy two jars of Indian curry paste, two packages of Wasa rye crispbreads (one of the only crackers I feel OK about eating), a tube of double concentrated tomato paste, a packet of cajun seasoning, two 86% Intense Dark Ghirardelli chocolate bars, and two packages of incense (helpful when you have a large dog in the house who doesn’t get bathed nearly enough).
