The Three P’s

Today is brought to you by the letter P.

First we have Pumpkin Butter!

As I mentioned, I am in love with this stuff. I think Jeff feels the same. So we scooped up eight jars when we stopped at Trader Joe’s last night. The cashier said to us: “I assume you’ve had this before? He was new to TJs, so we had to educate him about the wonderous and varied uses of this miracle in a jar. If he didn’t take home a jar with him that night, I’ll eat my hat.

A small dollop is quite fantastic on a bowl  of Bob’s Red Mill 5-Grain cereal.

I cooked a cup of dry cereal with a cup of milk, a half-cup almond milk and a half-cup water, along with a sliced banana, about a half-cup of canned pumpkin, cinnamon, vanilla and just a little salt. Cranberry sauce (a new recipe, with a touch of bourbon), some toasted pecans and the beloved pumpkin butter goodness went on top:

Next, we have Persimmons!

These slightly motley lovelies came from Uwajimaya, but when we stopped at Costco after that, I saw they had them two (in six-packs)! Good to know. These are mine, all mine, because Jeff does not quite see their appeal the same way I do. That’s OK…there’s certain things he eats that make me want to gag. Like smoked oysters from a can. Blech!

Finally, we have Pig!

Today was the day we pick up our half o’ pig from a farmer south of town. Most of it, anyway…our smoked ham, ham steaks and bacon will be coming along in a few more weeks. I wanted to take photos of the farm, but it was verging on dark and raining cats and dogs (or pigs and chickens) when we got there.
