This post is going to be quick. I’ve had a busy weekend, and a large chunk of it went into a paper I’m writing on conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content of grass-fed vs. grain-fed beef, and what science lies behind the health claims. I love being able to dig into something I’m personally interested in, and have it be a perfect topic for a class paper at the same time. That’s what I call…a win-win.

Anyhoo, one of the sources I’m using is a chapter (“The Fatted Steer”) in the Six Arguments for a Greener Diet e-book from Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). It’s an interesting read, and it’s free. (They do ask for a donation, but it’s not required.)

CSPI is a big part of my life these days. It comes up in pretty much every class I have right now (Food Safety, Food Marketing, Public Health Nutrition, Environmental Health, and now for my Nutrition and Metabolism paper). I had let my subscription to Nutrition Action Healthletter lapse, but I finally got back on that train last week. If you happen to be a CSPI fan, you might also be interested in an interview with Mr. CSPI himself, Michael Jacobsen, in the current issue of Today’s Dietitian. Also free!

Tomorrow, I’ll have a “greener diet” type recipe for you. Yummy, and vegan, but carnivores like it, too!
