Happy Friday…again. Where does the time go? Despite an extra-busy week, I dug up some interesting nutrition news to share:
- Do you need to take vitamin supplements? That’s a good question, and one that inspires lots of debate, with strong feelings on both sides. Whether the evidence supports both sides is another matter. Here’s a nice Washington Post article explaining why vitamin B12 developed a reputation as a fatigue fighter…a reputation that’s not warrented unless you truly have a B12 deficiency, which most people don’t. And here’s a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the state of the nation when it comes to essential vitamins and nutrients.
- A well-reasoned, well-written addition to the current hot topic of putting kids on diets. In this case, Dr. Yoni Freedhoff advises parents to be healthy role models and “clean up” their food environment, without focusing on weight, per se.
- An interesting take from Dr. Andrew Weil on the recent reports that red meat intake is inherently unhealthy.
- Finally, another year, another round of nominees for Saveur’s Best Food Blog Awards to get lost in.
Happy reading, and have a lovely weekend!
