Have you hugged your farmer today?

Do your weekend plans involve shopping at a farmers market? No? Well you're about the only one, apparently, as the USDA is reporting that farmers markets are booming due to increasing demand for local produce. There's a reference to the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market in San Francisco as being "one of the largest and most diverse of all." I can vouch for that, having been there only a few weeks ago (that's a photo up top). I wanted to curl up in a booth and live there.

If you need more inspiration to jump on the farmers market bandwagon, maybe this "Top 10 reasons to shop at a farmers market" video will get you in the mood.

  1. When you can't make it to a local farmers market, we would like to invite you to check us out. We are an on-line farmers' market for meat, poultry, and cheese. You can find farmers all across the US who you can support by buying directly from them and having the meat shipped right to your door. YUM YUM
