Happy Monday! If you haven’t seen it yet, my latest “On Nutrition” column in The Seattle Times is about how to foil food pushers…graciously.

Having people push food at you, whether physically (thrusting a box of doughnuts at you and saying “Take one!”) or psychologically (“Come on…they’re really good and I spend hours making them”) can be mildly annoying for some people, but deeply upsetting for others. I constantly hear from people who struggle with it, and I hear the anxiety in their voices as they talk about the coming holiday season.
The food pushing season really ramps up come Halloween (all that leftover candy that people bring to work because they don’t want it in their house where they might be tempted to eat it). Accordingly, my Halloween post will have more tips for dealing with the glut of unwanted sugar.
