Happy Monday! If you haven’t yet read my latest On Nutrition column, “Thinking about a post-holiday detox? Think again” from yesterday’s Seattle Times, check it out. In tomorrow’s post, I’ll talk a little more about the topic, including what steps to take if you really, truly, absolutely think you need to do a food-related detox.
In other news, I got a brief reprieve from the damp, gloomy chill that defines January in Seattle by heading to LA. It was sunny and 70 degrees and it felt so good to be able to walk around without wearing 50 layers of clothing. We checked out a little lunch counter in Chinatown that we heard about, Chego, which serves food that this Huff Post article describes as “a happy hybrid of three of the main culinary influences in LA right now — Asian, Latino and stoner.”
I ordered the Sour Cream Hen House (marinated grilled chicken rice bowl with fried egg, Chinese broccoli, sour cream sambal, Thai basil, toasted sesame and red jalapeno), and not just because I liked the name. It was amazing, as was the Chubby Pork Belly rice bowl that Jeff ordered (I snuck a bite). Behold the Hen House:
