MedMonthGraphic1M is for May, and also for Mediterranean, which might not be why May is Mediterranean Diet month, but if nothing else the alliteration is fun. The Mediterranean diet is one of my favorite ways to eat, and Oldways is one of my favorite resources for all things Mediterranean.

I discovered Oldways years ago when I was first looking in to the Mediterranean diet (long before I became a dietitian), and stumbled across their Mediterranean Diet Pyramid. Their site was great then, but it’s grown and evolved to become even better over the years. If you want to learn more about eating a Mediterranean diet, here are a few ways to get started:

I’ve linked to a lot of Oldways’ Mediterranean-specific content in this post, but it’s worth spending some time digging into the rest of the Oldways website, which includes other heritage food pyramids and a wealth of information on shopping for, cooking and eating a nutritious, delicious, health-promoting plant-based diet (plant-based means eating a lot of plant foods, it doesn’t mean you can’t include any animal foods, fyi). Seriously, this website is deep. I would go so far as to call it a treasure trove.

I’ll be writing about the Mediterranean diet in my May 18 On Nutrition column in The Seattle Times, so watch for it!
